Last time Chris and I were at the New Broadcasting House for a briefing, Nayeema of blondie fame (and still of the BBC for a week, until she moves on to GDS) was awfully kind to take the time and give us a very comprehensive tour of the building. At a time when many teams were still to come across from their previous offices, it was great to ride the scenic elevators… just the three of us.
It all started with my questions about the News floor, at the heart of it all, where cameras were being tested on their new rails around the room, and the studio getting ready to go live. By the end of the trip we got to sample Radio 1, sunny views across London, A&Mi, the level difference between the old building and the new, BBC World Service, eating areas, plugger rooms, meeting rooms, meeting booths, recording booths and live studios, the top of the interior tower and the vertigo-inducing view from there.
It was a lot to take in, but all good fun, and when I remembered to snap an image of this corner or that, this photo tour was born. I hope you’ll find it as shiny as we did.
