the pursuit of metappiness: looking back on my first 6 weeks
Hi there & welcome to a new series of posts about the pursuit of metappiness!
My name is Rita and I thought I should do something different and be the first person joining the team who introduces herself on the blog! By the end of my first post you will know a little bit about me, and what has been happening around here since I joined this crazy and awesome team of superstars!
I came onboard in mid April as MetaBroadcast’s Happiness Officer, fulfilling a long lasting desire of living in London along with accepting the challenge of making sure our own MetaBroadcats are feeling happy, as well as everyone who works with us! I, and everyone here, like to be surrounded by smiley happy people! A little more of what drives me can be read in my bio!
My joining the team also pinpoints how great our desire about the pursuit of metappiness is! It’s great working in a place that actually acts on the idea that some convey but do nothing about, of having their team, partners, clients, neighbours and, frankly, all other stakeholders, happy.
Over the past two months a lot of awesome things happened around here, so I’ll just point out a few of the highlights; some changes were made, some important checkpoints were reached, goals were achieved and now it’s only up from here!
Right at the beginning of April we had a new addition to our MetaBroadcats team: Chris Keeley joined the team as our first Intern Engineer from Imperial College—find out more about him and his penchant for caving by reading his bio.
Two new MetaBroadcats in one month! By itself, this would already be something of note if April had finished there. But that wasn’t all!
On April 18th our quarterly Away Day happened; for some of us it was the first—and for me in particular, it was the first one I helped plan. What was in store this time? A very cool SMS Treasure Hunt (all hail technology!) in Convent Garden’s mazy streets, on a very rainy day! You should know, a little rain won’t stop us, so out we went!
It was great fun; we followed leads and clues, faced challenges to gain time and by the end of it, things like this happened:
A suit made out of newspapers—any fashionistas out there want to take this to the next level?!
Then May arrived, and with it a lot of good things, including amazing warm weather to balance all the rain we’d had! But on a MetaBroadcast note, it also meant we were going to be celebrating for a number of different reasons.
Jonathan joined the team precisely one year ago, and to anniversarate (!) I had the seemingly easy task of discovering his favourite cake and making sure that would be the one we would have for his special day. Yes, only seemingly easy. I came to find out that Jonathan really likes cake. I mean, most cakes! And cupcakes too! What should we do?
Well, you know us and though you don’t know me, my job title gives me away—we all love making people happy, so here is the result, awesomely designated as "Cake decorated with cake", and it tasted even better than what it looks:
And yes, it made Jonathan happy…
…as well as everyone else!
Not long after this, we found ourselves new reasons to celebrate. That means that our collection of successes is growing rapidly! Remember this?
Now it looks more like this:
And a toast to you, and us, for all the hard work and good things happening! Cheers!
I’ll update you soon with more interesting things we’ve been up to :)
